On Saturday 25th of October at 10.30am, I will be visiting the North Cheshire Guild of Spinners, Weavers and Dyers to give a talk on Weaving in the Peruvian Highlands. This will include a digital slideshow of photo’s from my travels in Peru, covering the traditional backstrap weaving process, and a show of textiles from my most recent visit in September this year. Talk - Weaving in the Peruvian Highlands
On Monday the 20th of October, I will be visiting the Ashbourne sector of the East Midlands Embroiderers Guild and giving a talk on Weaving in the Peruvian Highlands. This will include a digital slideshow of photo's from my travels in Peru covering the weaving process and a show of textiles from my most recent visit in September this year. If you would like further details or would like to attend the talk but are not a member you can use the contact section on the Ashbourne Guilds website or myself here.
I was invited to give a talk at Trent & Erewash embroiderers guild last month, and had a lovely time meeting them and hearing some of their stories from travels in Peru. It's always wonderful to hear another travellers tale and it often brings back memories that have been buried beneath the jumble of daily tasks and 'things I must remember to do', so I find it's a rather refreshing experience! The quality of their crafts was most inspiring also, and I will be looking to visit one of their workshops some time in the future. And on to new ventures. Following on from the success in Wales and Scotland, I will be heading south on the 5th of April for the first ever World Textile Day in Romsey, Hampshire. This years theme is "Spirit of the Cloth" and entry is FREE! There will be talks by John Gillow and Martin Conlan (£2 entry per lecture, tickets on the door) and many wonderful stands selling beautiful unique textiles, clothing and treasures from all over the world. For more info and directions follow this link to the World Textile Day website http://www.worldtextileday.co.uk/. Spring is springing, and with the fresh air giving me a new burst of energy, there is winters knitting to finish, new weavings to start and cushions to be made. I had best go make a start!
From the 3rd of August until the 14th of September, you can find many of our treasures available at The Beetroot Tree alongside artwork from Paul Hirst. There will also be a special 'Peruvian themed' evening on the 1st of September where you can join us for a talk on Weaving in the Peruvian Highlands, followed by a four course Andes inspired supper! We are very much looking forward it all and to top it off The Beetroot Tree are offering a 10% discount of purchases for that evening. We hope to see you there! For further information on the evening please contact The Beetroot Tree on 01332 873929 or visit their website www.thebeetroottree.com
