Carved Gourds (Maté Burilados)

Our carved gourds (or maté burilados, in Peruvian Spanish) are sourced directly from the carvers in a tiny town in the Andean region of Junin, Peru. These works of art are created by engraving delicate patterns into gourds, and then are stained with ash and oil, and sometimes pigment. We stock all sizes, from huge 16" gourds to tiny 1" gourds, packed with detail and buzzing with lively depictions of plants, animals and scenes of village life.
